HOTEL iOCANDI
The company Hotel Iocandi is made up of Grisela Juncà and Tomeu Amer and came about in early 2012, when we reunited in Barcelona after completing our training at the Rogelio Rivel Circus School and at the National Center for Circus Arts in London.
This encounter, coupled with the mutual desire to bring our artistic interests and our knowledge of the circus disciplines together, resulted in the creation of the show Esquerdes, co-authored with Joana Gomila and presented in 2015 as part of the Fira Trapezi in Reus. The show has been staged in numerous festivals, cities and towns across Catalonia, Spain, Europe and Asia for over four years. In 2019 we premiered Peix at Fira Tàrrega (which won the Moritz Award for Best Street Premiere at Fira Tàrrega, the Drac d’Or Award for Best Street Show at Fira Titelles, and the Ciutat de Pollença Award). Over the last few years, this piece has been presented over a hundred times, in this country and abroad. It has recently been part of the Catalan expedition that participated in the Santiago a Mil Festival in Chile, coordinated by the Institut Ramon Llull and Catalan Arts.
As performers, we have also taken part in the shows Invisibles at the XXI Circ d’Hivern at the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris; Rakkaus at the Circ d’Hivern 2018 in Helsinki, Finland; El Fingidor, by Pep Tosar, premiered at Festival Festival 2021 and later programmed for the Teatre Romea 2023 Season; Desdèmona by Aura Sarraute, at the Festival Grec 2021; and La Innombrable by Alba Sarraute at Festival Grec 2024.
We are currently immersed in the creation of Conhort, our third show together
Shows
CONHORT
A show for all audiences of circus and objects. Premiere 2025
Conhort is a small refuge.
A poetic and tragicomic proposal that explores the idea of comfort, with a delicate and profound gaze on human relationships. The performance combines circus, movement, and a circular stage structure that embraces the audience, inviting them to participate actively.
Conhort gives voice to the noise, the fragility, and the beauty of shared existence.
An ode to miseries because they make us equal, recognizing ourselves happy within a nest of losers.
ESQUERDES
“What is in the empty space between two pieces that do not fit? A man and a woman meet in a place. He climbs. She runs. Just a simple movement… and the game can start.”
Esquerdes is a short piece that combines static trapeze and acrobatic ladder through two moving bodies, in a game between the desire and the escape.
PEIX
Second production of this company that presents a solo of small-medium format based on the circus and the clown. A reflection, from the poetic of the absurd on the impact of tourism, on the struggle of powers, on the emptiness, the silence and the loneliness in front of the immensity. A metaphorical trip to the human depths to look for what makes us continue swimming, looking, paddling despite the unforeseeable and always amazing magnitude and force of the waves.
