The shadow of control.
Introscòpia is an interactive installation that invites people to view themselves through surveillance. Inspired by artists such as Muntadas, Steyerl, and Calle, it reflects on privacy, technocracy, and control. The visitor observes their reflection in real time, highlighting how self-observation can become a form of subtle power.
Introscòpia refers to the act of looking at oneself, of observing one’s inner self to understand oneself. The work is structured around Foucault’s theory of the panopticon, altering participants’ behavior in response to the certainty or assumption of being watched. Drawing on Judith Butler’s concept of performativity, it questions whether identity is a repetition of behaviors influenced by surveillance and a mediated system. The emphasis lies on self-surveillance, exploring to the point of absurdity the notion of performing without visible external control.
